The Law Constituents And Religion Affairs Essay - 1989 Words
The law constituents and religion affairs are largely used in the decision making process due to there is a concrete evidence that can be proven and has concern to many parties, God and a state. However, the consideration to use ethics to be positioned in the same place as law and religion is doubtful and questionable due to its stances merely stands upon personal attitudes, beliefs, and values to determine the actions of right or wrong. Ethics used as benchmarks to examine the assumptions of what we think is right might not be the same as others, they could regard as completely wrong. This paper is structured to explore the area of myself which describe the conditions before and after recognising the true self and the importance of ethics, as well as looking through some areas in personality, characters, and behaviors that need some improvements. How do you see yourself defines who you are, is the main focus I use to explain through this paper. The area of discussion encompasses the personal experiences, different perception in personal and professional views, and possible ways in solving problems. The sections also provide analysis regarding the importance of understanding true self as part of self reflections to examine whether or not your expectations to be seen by others, in the same way as the actual condition of how they think about you. The paragraph started from the area of personal stories when I first engaged with the condition that make me questioning of who IShow MoreRelatedReligion : The United States And The European Union1648 Words à |à 7 Pages Religion is as old as human civilization itself. Holism Versus Reductionism
Question: Describe the Holism versus Reductionism and explain how it is used as a tool for problem solving? Answer: Holism: In the holism, the entire system is considered rather than merely its parts or constituents. Holism basically refers to a system or approach, in which the focus is on the whole thing and is on more priority as compared to the parts, it is constituted of. When holism approach is adopted, the large entities or organizations are not broken down for the purpose of understanding it. Holism enables in the problem solving. In this system, it is believed that the complex problems of natural systems can be understood as a whole and cannot be solved in terms of its parts. For instance, whenever an individual gets ill, it is considered as his whole body is not healthy. It is not said that his individual parts of body are not healthy. Another common example of holism, which can be seen in daily lives is that the holistic brand. Holistic brand implies that the image or reputation of a company is always taken as image of whole company rather than the individual parts of the company. Similarly, in 'Ferranti Effect', the total voltage at the receiving end is more than the voltage at the sending end. In short, the overall total of voltage is more than the constituting parts. Reductionism: This approach implies that to solve a problem the bigger complex thing is broken down to its simplest constituting parts. While applying this approach, it is presumed that the larger parts of a system can be better understood if they are broken into smaller parts and then thoroughly studied. Thus, as opposed to holism, the whole here is studied as its parts. For instance, the system of the whole car is better understood by studying its different parts separately like its engine, wheels, accelerator etc. similar approach can be seen in the work and research of Baron- Cohen et al.. According to him, a small phenomenon (empathy) if understood first, can lead to a better understanding about the bigger area (autism). Various scientific methods can be used for this purpose because in case of some bigger systems, the smaller parts can be studied only under special environment and settings like standard methods, also known as reliability and greater control, also known as validity. Reduction ism is a kind of supplement to holism, according to which every entity or system is composed of small basic parts and if these basic smaller parts are understood, the entire system can be understood on the basis of that. An example of this approach is: A merged electrical circuit is made up of various separable and individual elements such as: capacitance, resistance and thus the flow of current can be considered as the total sum of these individual parts. In general, the two approaches: holism and reductionism are not as such contrary to each other, but differ only in terms of their focus. One concentrates on the relationship between various parts of a large entity and the other on the parts properties. In short, both supplement each other and are not conflicting with each other. System thinking The other name for system thinking is the systemic thinking, which means implies to think about the whole rather than its parts. It implies that the evolving properties can neither be observed nor be altered just by studying or understanding the individual components. In the systems thinking approach, emphasis is laid down on the relationships between the various parts, as compared to just viewing them in isolation. It also implies to take into account the environment, circumstances or context that is present around a specific system, which is under study, thus, it can be said that the systems thinking, in a way, is also contextual thinking, which gain implies to understand any system within the context or meaning of a bigger whole. It has also been termed as holistic thinking by some people. An illustration of this can be understood with the help of an example of a car. If certain improvements are being made to the say, accelerator or the steering wheel, can it guarantee for the increased speed of that car? The obvious answer to this would be no. the reason behind this will be that improvements were being made only in the individual parts and not in the car as a whole. The same theory holds true for many other complex systems as well as large organizations. For more clarity of the systems thinking, a situation can be analyzed. For instance, the employees engaged in the department of operations of a manufacturing company complain that they are facing many internet and mail related issues, which needs a lot of time and effort for resolution of these issues. This is because the lead time for resolving these issues by the help desk of the information technology (IT) is quite high. Usually, the first thought that will come into the mind of a practitioner to sort out this issue would be the launch of a Six Sigma project so that the lead time required for resolution of such IT issues can be reduced. But, however, the systems thinking, however, will give recommendation of first understanding why and where of this issue along with the interrelationships, already existing in the system. The receiver of such a large number of requests by the IT helpdesk is mainly due to the reason that employees lack such basic skills. With the application of the systems thinking, such an issue is solved by making provision of training for all the employees, with the purpose of improving and enhancing their basic skills related to computers. Problem solving as a tool: Systems thinking can be used as a means of efficient tool for understanding and solving the complex problems. However, thinking, which is required at the time of solving a problem is entirely different from the time of its creation. For appropriate solution, thinking should be in the right direction. In many situations, it happens that in spite of making all efforts in all directions, the problem is not solved. Here comes the role of systems thinking approach. Systems Thinking Meets Challenges offered by Change: Systems thinking helps in meeting the challenges posed by changes to a great extent, as the consequences faced in future due to the choices made by people today become real due to systems thinking. It can be understood as follows that system thinking: Explains the reason behind the usual thinking of people, when they do not want to accept change. Clarifies as to why change is required for greater success. Provides explanation as to how interaction between different thoughts and behavior of different people lead to experience; and Makes recommendations for the improvement of performance of different individuals and hence the organization as a whole. Systems Approach applied to Project Management The performance and improvement techniques for organizational systems are explained by the Systems Thinking (ST) Approaches as: Functional Systems Approach Interpretive Systems Approach Structural Systems Approach Project Management is a very important field of everything. A good project management can result only under the guidance of a good project manager, who has not only technical skills but also possesses communication and leadership qualities. Project Management involves the execution of complex systems and can be improved with the help of engineering tool like a system modeling for solving the problems of communication. Nowadays, with the help of the internet and the availability of standard softwares in the industries, it has become very convenient to access the modeling tools in a particular. Thus, learning of such tolls has become easier and hence the development of simple and real model. The vision of a project as visualized by a customer may be right or misleading. However, the visualization by a project team is more realistic because it focuses on the achievement of results and also provides guidelines to the team for the same. At this stage, the communication process is very crucial. It is the stage, when the goals of the project and the ways of its achievement explain to the team and is called project scope. Its very essential to formulate the outcomes of the project so as to understand if a balance is maintained between the vision of the customer about the project and the essentials required for its achievement. And a model of the system that will be developed in the project, whether it is a building, a machine, a software or a policy, can easily correspond to the prototype tool described in. Conclusion On the basis of the above discussion, it can be concluded that the major point of discussion is not as to what are the obstacles, which are to be crossed in various intra as well as interdisciplinary approach, but the main fact to be focused here is that under the scientific synthesis, the systems of holism and reductionism are not in conflict or in contradiction ideologically, philosophically or practically. Overall, it can be said in crux that the approach of reductionism has been just more scientific as compared to holism. With this approach, a more statistical analysis of the data is possible, thus opening gates of more research. While on the other hand, results of a holistic experiment lack empirical evidence and are not so reliable or scientific.

Thomas McCormack Essays - Indian Religions, Automation, Buddhism
Thomas McCormack Professor Sharon LaRue ATA 134-801 9 December 2017 Automation in the Workplace: The Future of Economics, Culture and Morality The idea that robots or machines will one day break free from their mechanical shackles to rise up and enslave the human race; the very source of their existence, is by no means a cutting-edge discussion. In fact, even as far back as Ancient Greece, myths such as the golden robots of Hephaestus began to appear, and many ancient civilizations featured realistic humanoid automatons that the faithful believed imbued within these statues, were very real minds, capable of wisdom and emotion. (McCorduck, 2004) Now, the topics discussed in the New York Times article: "The Robots Are Coming for Wall Street" by Nathaniel Popper may seem like a far cry from popular science fiction like 2001: A Space Odyssey, but in reality this could just be the beginning. The article follows Daniel Nadler, CEO of a relatively new company called Kensho. Kensho, a Japanese Zen term which means: To see nature', is a data analytics and machine intelligence company, with the company's vision direct from their own website being: "we believe that our civilization's newest technology --machine intelligence--can and should be used to better understand our oldest human systems." Nadler predicts that between a third and a half of employees in the finance industry during the next decade will lose their jobs due to emerging automation software like Kensho, and it's not exclusive to the lower-paid, less skillful positions that one may expect. Automation, in the finance industry, has now moved on to research and analysis, as software like Kensho has become increasingly more sophisticated and capable of dissecting enormous data sets faster and more reliably than humans. Software written by the company Kensho, can automatically predict how markets will move in response to different world events, such as the escalation in the Syrian Civil War for example. It can generate a report that "would have taken days, probably 40 man-hours, from people who were making an average of $350,000 to $500,000 a year", Nadler told the Times. The New York Times article also references an Oxford study from 2013 called: "The Future of Employment: How susceptible are jobs to computerization?" In this piece, different jobs were assessed as to how susceptible they would be to computerization. Based on their estimates of future expected impacts of computerization in the workplace, they predict that about 47 percent of total US employment is at risk (Frey and Osborne, 2013) The emergence of companies like Kensho further support the findings that were discussed in this somewhat controversial study from 2013. Some may argue that the impact of computerization on labor market outcomes is well established in the literature, which documents the decline of employment in routine intensive occupations (Frey, 2013) is something to be weary over as it will potentially increase unemployment levels. While cutting out a large percentage of the jobs that exist today may seem like a severely negative impact on the surface, automation of many of these occupations could prove to actually be more beneficial to the future of the work force. If we were to make an ethical decision based on the utilitarian rule, and pursue an outcome that produces the greatest amount of good for the greatest amount of people (George, Jones, 2016, p. 91), it would behoove oneself to examine some of the potential benefits of automation and computerization in not only the financial marketplace but many other workplaces. Product quality and output could be expected to rise; a benefit of automation and computerization is freedom f rom fatigue. With either robots or programs, companies produce the same product the same way, with virtually no variation. Freeing up human input from mundane repetitive tasks can also help free up employees to focus on the jobs that require critical thinking rather than busy work to name just one other benefit. Many man hours would be saved through automation of menial tasks that don't require much effort from employees. Through algorithm inputs and other data sets, companies can implement programmed decisions that have been made so many times in past that managers have developed rules or guidelines around them (George, Jones, 2016, p. 164), allowing employees to

Making A New Deal essays
Making A New Deal essays Lizabeth Cohen wants to prove that Chicago workers created a working class during the depths of the Great Depression. Unfortunately, the means she chooses to prove her case do not completely convince me. In Cohens hefty Making a New Deal she posits a transition of Chicagoans from ethnic, employer-loyal workers in 1920s to members of a common culture who articulated a class consciousness in the 1930s. She asserts that workers needed to overcome ethnicity before they could realize class, but then backs away from this claim. In the end, Cohens ambivalence, the rosy picture she paints of the New Deal era, and her overemphasis of class consciousness all weaken the book. The books central theme holds that ethnicity had to be overcome if working-class unity was to be attained. Cohen plants seeds of theoretical discontent within this framework that undermine her basic argument. For instance, in Chapter 3, Encountering Mass Culture, Cohen argues that mass culture and consumption standardized American life in the 1920s. But then she retreats from this sweeping generalization, equivocating that the impact of mass culture depended on the social and economic contexts in which it developed and the manner in which it was experienced (101). Despite the prevalence of mass culture it did not make working-class Chicagoans feel any less Polish, Jewish, or black or any less of a worker (158). Yet Cohen shows that even as ethnic workers listened to radio programs and shopped at chain grocery stores that were not supposed to influence them (in Cohens opinion), they began to have more in common with their co-workers of different ethnicity and race (157). Either ethni city or class has to prevail here, and I am not sure Cohen knows which one she prefers. I admire Cohens effort to present a positive picture of ethnic and black cultures by presenting their resiliency, but she understa...

Media Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words
Media - Essay Example Media as a form of communication was introduced about 550 years ago. In the past, there was only print and audio form of media; in the form of newspapers and radios. There has been a lot of growth in the media especially with the introduction of technology. Innovation in media related technology has ensured that the members of the public can access more information and in a timely manner. One of the mass media that revolutionized the advertising, information sharing and entertainment aspects of the media was the introduction of television. This paper will discuss the impact of television on the mass media content and origins of television advertising. Introduction Mass media is an important aspect in the world because it informs the members of the public on current events that are being witnessed around the nation. The advancement in innovations has led to a growth and advancement in the mass media channels. The introduction of television brought a form of media communication whereby individuals could see and hear what was being reported. Television grew to be very popular because could see and hear what was being communicated. Initially, most of the content that was being communicated was mostly informative content such as current events at the local and international level, the weather and documentaries. The content on the televisions was also black and white. With time, the content expanded to include entertainment content like music and soap operas that increased the number of individuals that subscribed to television. Thesis statement: Television media led to the decline in the traditional media channels such print magazines and radio. Television media content The introduction of televisions in the 1950 decade brought competition to the already established newspaper and radio industry. The other forms of media that existed had to establish and introduce new strategies so as to maintain market relevance. In the year 1962, installing and use of satellite Tel star I was initiated (Lamb et al). Real time images and audio content would be transmitted to the audience from wherever it was occurring. This enabled television media to have an upper hand since it could transmit news from all over the world. This gave television media an upper hand in the media because individuals would source information content from all over the world and it had an entertainment factor. According to Barkin (p 10), people liked television media because they felt that it was valid in comparison to radio and newspapers forms of information content. There were few television programs that broadcasted, so some of them had to be repeated before station broadcasting hours ended. The 1980 decade witnessed lot of progress in television media due to the launch of 24 television hours especially in the United States of America (Barkin p 9). This increased the number of audiences for the various television stations that aired throughout the day and night. People who worked at night were kept busy and entertained by the continuous programs on their favorite television stations. With the growing popularity of the television stations, other forms of media such as radio, newspapers and magazines recorded low sales volumes. Some newspapers had to close their businesses due to the high competition from the television stations. A greater number of people preferred to view images as they listened, in contrast to reading or just listening without

The Concept of Business Strategy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
The Concept of Business Strategy - Essay Example The arrangement of the five forces varies across different industries. For instance, in the commercial airline industry, stiff competition exists between Boeing and Airbus, the power of suppliers, threat of entry and the threat of substitutes are weak while the power of suppliers is strong. In the movie theatre sector, the increase of entertainment and the influence of distributors and movie producers and inputs are significant. The first component in the tool refers to supplier power and refers to the ease of suppliers to lead to changes in prices. This is influenced by the number of suppliers in at each point of production, the cost of switching between suppliers, the power they have over companies and the uniqueness of the product or service. The less the supplier options that are present in an industry, the more power the consumers have. The second aspect of the Porter Five-tool is buyer power and it relates to how easy it is for consumers to lead to a reduction in prices. This i s influenced by the number of buyers, the cost of their decision to switch to other products and services and the value of each customer to the organization. Companies that deal with a relative number of powerful buyers, they have a huge impact on them. The third aspect is competitive rivalry and this relates to the number and ability of the competitors. If a company has a high number of competitors that offer better products and services then, the company has minimal power over the situation.

Accreditation Audit Essay Example for Free
Accreditation Audit Essay With all of the possible problems that could occur during surgery, a wrong-site, wrong-patient mistake is one that should never arise. Nightingale Community Hospital (NCH) fully understands the importance of doing away with these errors and has set up protocol to work towards this goal. While the protocol is in place, it is not fully compliant with Joint Commission (JC) standards. Standard: UP.01.01.01: Conduct a preprocedure verification process. Nightingale Community Hospital has a Site Identification and Verification policy and procedure. Within this policy, and Preoperative/Preprocedure Verification Process is addressed. There is also a Preprocedure Hand-Off form present. This form is a bit misleading as it is essentially a hand-off form in general with a few extra boxes possible for check-off. To prepare for inspection and audit, NCH should create and implement a form for use within the Operating Theater or wherever procedures are performed, such as bedside procedures. This form needs to be more specific in addressing at least the minimum requirements by JC. The form needs to cite that all relevant documentation is present, such as signed consent form, nursing assessment, preanesthesia assessment, history and physical. The form also needs to specify that the necessary diagnostic and radiology test results, rather they be images and scans, or biopsy reports, and properly displayed and labeled. Finally, to fulfill the minimum requirements by JC, any and all required blood products, implants, devices, and special equipment needs to be labeled and matched to the patient. Standard: UP.01.02.01: Mark the procedure site. NCH covers the procedure site marking standard fairly well within their Site Identification and Verification Policy. It mentions that site marking is needed for those cases involving laterality, multiple structures, or levels. Several times in their policy NCH mentions that it is best to have the patient involved, if at all possible. If the patient is unable to mark the site, the policy states that the physician will be called to mark the site. The policy states that the mark shall be made in permanent black marker so it will remain visible after skin preparation, and also in a location that will remain visible after sterile draping is in place. The policy alsoà includes circumstances in which the marking will be unable to be performed based on the location of the surgery being in an area that is unable to be marked. Standard: UP.01.03.01: A time-out is performed before the procedure. Nightingale Community Hospital has an adequate procedure in place for the time-out performance. Within the Site Identification and Verification Policy, the Time-Out Procedure complies with JC standards. A time-out is to be conducted immediately prior to performance of the procedure, it is initiated by the nurse or technologist, it involves all personnel involved in the procedure, the team members agree to a minimum of patient identity, correct site, and correct procedure to be performed, and all of this information is documented in the record, including those involved and the duration of the time-out. The only issue not addressed fully is the possibility of multiple procedures occurring on the same patient by different practitioners, and in that case, an additional time-out needs to be done for every new procedure. The Communication priority focus area is an extremely important area for any hospital. This is a common sense area that should be able to reach complete compliance. A wrong-patient, wrong-site issue should never arise and is completely avoidable. In 2010, Joint Commission reported that wrong-patient/site surgeries continued to be the most frequently reported sentinel event(Spath 2011).Jay Arthur states that JC reports between four and six wrong-site surgeries per day(2011). The World Health Organization believes that at least 500,000 deaths per year could be prevented if the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist was correctly implemented. These numbers, when compared with the possibility of 100% compliance, are astounding and completely avoidable. Nightingale Community Hospital is well on their way to avoiding these types of sentinel events through usages of proper protocol, procedures, and policy as is seen by the upward trend from their last year of self-checks. With continued diligence and appropriate modifications made, this can be an area that NCH, and any other hospital can be fully compliant in. References Arthur, J. (2011).
